  • Keep listening to more music, and you'll soon build up your personal timeline!

FULL INSTRUCTIONS (version 2.0):

In musicGPS you can play any track on your iPhone or iPod touch*
  • Double-tap cover art to play any track you've already listened to
  • Double-tap anywhere else on the screen (outside the central square) to open the music player controls with full access to your iPod library
  • Tap "Current" to play the track from the event you've navigated to (visible at the bottom of the screen), or
  • Tap "Library" to select and play a single track, or to compile and play a playlist from any of the tracks in your iPod library
  • Tap the Shuffle and Repeat buttons to toggle on or off
  • Tap outside the music player controls to close them

Remember to launch musicGPS when you're listening on your iPhone*
  • What you see is a timeline - the past is to the left and the future is to the right. Each picture on the timeline represents a track that you've listened to (listening events): the track information is below and the date and time of listening are above. musicGPS must be running for this information to be recorded, although the screen can be off.
  • [When you first start up musicGPS the timeline will either be empty or there will be a single cover art image in the middle - which is what you're listening to when the app starts.]
  • In the default Sequential mode , every track will be displayed on the timeline in the order that you listened to them, from left to right.
  • When you tap the timeline mode button the display changes to Calendar mode : a background grid is displayed and the tracks are shown according to the timescale - with times/dates to the left and right.
  • As you zoom out (by pinching with two fingers), more and more tracks will be stacked together - the number on the orange circle tells you how many tracks are in each stack.
  • Tap the timeline mode button again to return to Sequential mode - you can toggle between the modes as often as you like.

How to navigate your musicGPS timeline
  • With two fingers, stretch / pinch once to zoom in or out; when the timeline has redrawn, stretch / pinch again to zoom further
  • Gently flick the timeline to the left or right to navigate along it - the faster you flick, the further you go...
  • Drag... and hold the timeline to move event by event - this way you can navigate inside a group of events in Calendar mode
  • Flick the timeline up (or down) to change the view from cover art to map tiles to text notes to snapshots to cover art
  • In the map view, the red pins show where you are or were when you were listening - when your location is unknown, musicGPS currently displays either your most recent location or a generic map tile
  • Shake to return to the currently-playing or the most recent event (you may have to wait a few seconds until the new track is fully registered)

Advanced functionality in musicGPS
  • Double-tap snapshot to take a new photo, or choose one from your iPhone photo albums*
  • Double-tap text note to add/edit
  • Touch the Search button to find events by track or text info, e.g. Artist/Composer, or within a range of dates
  • Touch the Configuration button to change the GPS sensitivity (affects battery life), to switch off Service Alerts etc., and to access these "Hints"

Synchronization of your musicGPS data
  • If you haven't already created your free musicDNA account, you'll need to sign up on the registration page in order to synchronize your data
  • Tap the Sync button and enter your musicDNA username and password
  • Tap the Sync Now button to do a full synchronization - this will copy over your local listening data to the backend server - firstly so that you can backup and restore your data, and in due course share it with your friends**
  • "Sync Continuously" may be switched off by default - when switched on and as long as you have internet connectivity, new listening event data will be sent to the backend server as you go (however, it will always be necessary to use the Sync Now button from time to time in order to ensure full synchronization)
  • You can also use the Sync Now button after restoring your device to restore your musicGPS data - depending on the size of your event store, this may take some time and possibly more than one synchronization attempt

*Please note that although musicGPS works on the iPod touch, the iPod touch does not have the iPhone's GPS capabilities, and therefore the map view will be very limited; similarly the snapshot functionality requires a camera.
**Please see our privacy policy for full details of how the data may be used.
